Imperial Valley Child Asthma Program

The ECRMC Foundation adopted the Imperial Valley Child Asthma Program in March of 2009, to help them with their fundraising efforts for the 1st Annual Asthma Walk and sustainabilty of this worthy program.  Imperial County is known for reporting a high incidence of asthma hospitalizations in young children and adults and asthma is one of the most common illnesses in Imperial County.  Among children ages 0 -17, 39% per 10,000 children in Imperial County have been hosptialized for asthma.  By comparision, statewide hospitalization rates among this group are 6.1% per 10,000.  Imperial County childhood asthma hospitalization rates are four times higher than the state rates.  Currently the IVCAP is the only asthma program available.  The program seeks to prevent or reduce hospitalization by enhancing parental asthma skills through care coordination, case managemnet education, home visitations, community education and by encourgaing the adoption of standards of care for asthma among medical professionals.  The program is free to all Imperial County residents. Donate now to help the IVCAP grow!
